There's not really a reason for not eating hot dogs other then availability. It's just one of those things I never really get round to for no particular reason at all.

The greek version is called gyros over here. Souvlaki is, if I remember correctly, spiced mince meat. At least over here. This excellent webpage explains it pretty well.

I can eat vegetarian hot dogs. They have to be made from a really good deli though. Some hotdogs are just so questionable.

I don't doubt it. Being Dutch isn't much help in that respect though. I did have Bratwurst on several occasions when I visited Germany. That's good eating. Specially with a little mustard.

So what do you all think of liquorice. Apparently this a European, mostly Dutch treat, that doesn't seem to entice a lot of other people. Specially the double salt version.

Re: Good hot dogs. Nathan's brand, available in Vons/Safeways and occasionally Costco. They're in a green and white package with yellow accents. My favorite brand. To answer Death's question from The High Cost of Living, the chemical aftertaste is not why we eat them. It's a sign of an inferior dog.

Re: Liquorice. ??? We have licorice over here, but it's a candy so the double salt reference is throwing me off a bit. Ours is usually found in tubes or strings and is either anise or cherry flavored (for the most part).

Yep, that's what I meant, me and my confusing spelling. But they do come in double salt variety over here. This store has a nice section showing various examples of what the Dutch licorice is all about.

Reasonably well after a long weekend of doing almost nothing. Sun has been shining, weekend was great (feel free to check my live journal for details) and I've finished work a couple of hours ago. Just need some food now. And how are you?
